GORDON NORTH SYDNEY WOMENS HOCKEY 2010
Welcome to Gordon North Sydney (GNS) Women’s Hockey. We provide opportunities for all levels of abilities, from players who are the best in the world, to able and focused Juniors from 13 years of age. We provided this through three separate competitions; Metro League, Northern Womens League and North Shore Competition. In 2010 we are once again looking to improve on the progress made in 2009 to bring the club even more together as a whole both on and off the field.
Sydney Womens Hockey League (Metro)
The SWHL competition is the Premier Women’s Competition in Sydney. It is played predominantly on Sundays on synthetic water turf at the Olympic Park (Homebush) and Cintra Park (Concord). This competition is due to start on March 21st.
In 2010 we are looking to select and field four highly competitive teams with various key focus points:
Our 1st’s team is in the top division in Sydney and under the highly valued guidance of Solomon Casoojee a former Assistant Coach of the South African Women’s Hockey Team. He is FIH accredited and has also coached within various programs in NSW and ACT.
The GNS team of 2007 team won the right to promotion into the ML 1 competition. In 2008 & 2009 were very competitive and completed the season in fine form just short of the playoffs. ML 1 are a young team with tremendous potential and numerous players are representative level players locally - 1 U21 Australian Junior World Cup Side, 6 NSW U21 players, 1 U18 NSW player, 1 U15 NSW player and an Australian School Girl Representative player. This group are clearly a side to be watched in their pursuit of a finals berth in ML 1 in 2010 and, hopefully, their international hockey dreams in the near future.
Our 2nd’s team, currently playing in the ML 3 competition, needs to be filled with highly talented players who exhibit loyalty and aspirations in playing at the top level in Sydney. Effort = Outcome is the direction this group will follow together as a team under their coach Nigel Lynn, an experienced and committed club member who is focused on the quest for the Minor Premiership. A minor premiership status while already they would of been playing at the higher level gives them the status they deserve in the next grade up.
Our 3rd team will be looking to step up and polish off what was seen by all as a threatening finals appearance in 2009. With few changes planned for 2010, this year they aim to take home the prize. This grade not only caters for experienced hockey players, but also provides an opportunity for selected junior players to gain experience from senior members of the club under the coaching guidance of Liam Cole.
Our 4th teams direction will be our Junior Development team for girls with representative ambitions and whome are passionate about playing for GNS at the highest possible level over the next 5 years. This team in support of their pathway to the top will be invited to join a second training session at no extra cost, this however due to the age of the girls will be optional to work in with their school & representative commitments.
Players selected in our Metro teams are required to be highly committed, they are expected to attend training every week to develop together own individuals skills and come together as team. Those selected in our 1st team and invited others will look to have an extra session a week. Trainings will be at the Ryde Hockey Turf, Waterloo Road, Ryde on Monday Nights.
It is important to note that matches and training sessions will continue through the school holidays and that if you are unable to attend a training session or game you must email/phone your coach and manager in advance.

This competition realy does give younger girls an opportunity to gain experience with playing against and learn from players whome have played at the top level in Sydney. This team will be made up of players from a wide range of age groups.
