GNS Junior FAQ

For answers to the basic administration questions, please read on below

I want to join the club, what do I do?

Register on the website. Monitor the website for key dates and information. Junior trials are usually in February, with training starting soon after. Competitions begin in March.

In addition to playing in Junior competitions, we also enter teams in a Schoolgirl competition running the in second term.

What Competitions are available?

I want to join but the competition has already started, what do I do?

If there are spaces available in a team of the correct age group then register online and come along to training.

If there are no spaces available – then we take names and contact details and put them on a waiting list. If we have enough numbers to add an extra team, or if we have some drop outs then we will contact them and offer them a place in a team.

When is Training?

Training is at Kuringai Hockey Centre ( address details of all Hockey fields used is available on the GNS website ).

Normally

U9 and U11 at 4.30 – 5.30

U13  at 5.30 – 6.30

U15 at 6.30 – 7.30

This may change depending on the coach’s availability.

What do I do if games clash with school Sport?

Club games should take priority over school games. It is important that players and parents understand and adhere to this. Please read our policy about this on the policy tab of our Juniors website.

When are games?

Games in the North Area comp (U11, U13, U15) are played on Friday nights and on Saturday mornings.

Games in the Term 2 Schoolgirls comp are held on Saturday mornings

Do you have hockey for U9's?

Where we have enough players. yes. U9s train and play in a shortened season that runs during Term 2. They train on Thursday at Kuringai at 4.30 pm. They play games at Pennant Hills at 5.30 on Friday afternoons for one hour. We can supply sticks if required.

My child is x years and y months old, which age group will they be in?

Ages are determined as at January 1.

8 at Jan 1 2010   –   U9

9 at Jan 1 2010   –  U11

10 at Jan 1 2010 – U11

11 at Jan 1 2010 – U13

12 at Jan 1 2010 – U13

13 at Jan 1 2010 -  U15

14 at Jan 1 2010 – U15

15 at Jan 1 2010 – U17  -  Boys only – U17 Girls move into women’s teams

16 at Jan 1 2010 – U17  -  Boys only -  U17 Girls move into women’s teams

When does the competition run and for how long does it run?

The North Area competition starts late March and finishes in late August.

The Schoolgirls comp runs for Term 2 only.

What extra training can my child do?

There are regular Academies run by highly qualified GNS coaches. – details will be available on the GNS website when confirmed.

Uniforms

Uniforms can be purchased from FHE at Ryde Hockey Ground, Waterloo Road, North Ryde. Normally open 5.00pm - 9.00pm Monday to Friday; 8.00am - 6.00pm Saturday; 8.00am - 5.00pm Sunday. Always good to phone first. 02 8036 1101. Alternatively they can are ordered online through the GNS website.

Representative Trial Dates

For Sydney rep teams – go to the Sydney Junior Hockey Association Website www.sjha.com.au

For North Shore rep teams (girls only) go to the North Shore Women’s website www.nshockey.com.au

Insurance

An insurance levy is included in the Junior fees. This insurance covers the player for club games and training as well as rep games and training.

Volunteering

If you would like the rewards of volunteering with the Junior club – we can always use another coach, manager or administrator just contact the Junior Convenor whose contact details can be found on the contacts pages of this website
